Catalina

It's been years (as in 15+) since I last visited Catalina Island.  The daily ferry's are just a short drive from my parents home in Laguna so as a birthday gift to my parents and as a surprise for Blake, I booked us all tickets for a fun day trip out to the island.

I had zero expectations or plans for the day, a first for me, but we ended up having the most relaxed and perfect day.  The morning was very overcast, but minutes before reaching the island, the sun broke through and it was a gorgeous, sunny day.

We got off the boat and headed to Descanso Beach Club, a beautiful cove right past the famous  casino that has a great restaurant right on the water.  We sat in the shade, ordered some bloody's and took turns walking Luke down to the beach and splashing in the water.  We sat there for hours, eating, talking and soaking in the views.  Luke sat at the table patiently with us, playing with his food, talking and singing.  We left the restaurant with time to explore the cute downtown area of Avalon and go for a dip in the crystal clear waters.

The water was cold, and there wasn't much of a sandy beach, but we did find a little cove, threw Luke in his swim trunks and he loved playing in the ocean.

As the day wore on, the boys got in line for the ferry, and mom and I ran the little man up and down the park before boarding to tire him out before the hour long boat ride home.  Our plan worked and as soon as we boarded and the motor started up, Luke was fast asleep.
