Luke Turns Two

For Luke's second birthday we had a fun dinosaur themed BBQ at the house with all his buddies.  On the menu was steak, chicken and veggie kabobs, garden salad, sesame snap peas, fruit salad, veggies and hummus, dinosaur cut out PB and J's, applesauce pouches, homemade dino sugar cookies and cake.

We have been hermits for the last year or so with all the construction going on with the house, so it was important to me to have everything cleaned up and somewhat put back together before the party.  Now I LOVE to plan a good party, but I may have taken on a bit too much for this one as I was in all day training in San Jose for work the week before the party which really limited my prep time, and we were still having the fence installed and minor work done around the house up until 2 days before the party.  I'm a crazy person.  I was glazing cookies and cutting up the meat for the kabobs until midnight the night before the party watching Blake pour cement outside to even out the area around the fence posts and it hit me how insane I was about the expectations I had for my kids SECOND birthday. Lesson learned.

All in all, it was a super fun party and the best part was watching how happy and excited Luke was to be surrounded by all his friends, playing in the water and eating lots of cake.  He was running around saying "happy birthday Lukey," with a big smile on his face, and went through about 4 separate outfits on his birthday between getting drenched by the hose, smearing cake down his shirt, playing in the mud and spilling chocolate milk - all signs of a good time.

We had friends stay into the evening and when the party was over we gave Luke a quick bubble bath and he zonked out for a solid 13 hours.

I bought a plain Costco chocolate cake and then decorated it with chocolate rocks and fun palm trees and dinosaurs purchased at a local cake shop.

Easter

Wow, do we have some catching up to do.... let's start with Easter.  We had a fabulous low key Easter brunch this year spent with B's family on a beautiful spring weekend.  Luke didn't quite understand the whole Easter bunny/finding eggs thing, and was far more interested in playing soccer with his dad.  We finally had to enlist the help of Luke's cousin Makenna to help him find all of his eggs after he lost interest 2 minutes into the hunt.

The best part of the day was realizing that my SIL Stacey hadn't hard-boiled the eggs she hid for my nephew Mason, so as he was collecting all the eggs, a few broke in his basket and he was wondering why his eggs were dripping... we all had a good laugh, and I was thankful I brought plastic eggs to hide for Luke.
