Cooling Off at the Bay Area Discovery Museum
Playing in the water with the sea animals.
This past weekend to escape the heat we loaded up the truck and headed to Sausalito on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge for a day of fun and exploring at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. I have been wanting to take Luke here for a long time since hearing rave reviews from friends and neighbors, and we've been trying to get in lots of special time and activities with Luke before his baby sister arrives, so the timing was perfect.
The Museum was so cool and is tailored for toddlers. They had tons on hands on exhibits and Luke especially loved the outdoor Lookout Cove area with sweeping views of the Golden Gate in the background. There are tons of areas to picnic or hike around the museum and they also have a sweet cafe within the museum that serves up fresh, local, organic food from around the Bay Area which was definitely a delicious treat from the normal kid venue fare we're accustomed to of chicken nuggets and french fries.
It was a beautiful day and we definitely plan to go back later this summer.
Digging up rocks in the construction play area.
Luke watching bubbles - he had the biggest smile all day!
Crawling through caves.
Making friends in the frog pond on the huge water filled mats.
Banging on the xylophones.
Steering the ship.
Once we finally did get home to the 96 degree heat, we all jumped in the pool and stayed there until dinner. We started getting Luke ready for bed when around 8pm the power went out. We had no electricity (read no AC) for 3 hours and I was so hot I couldn't sleep so ended up back out in the pool at 10pm just sitting there trying to cool off. Thankfully Luke was so exhausted from the day he wasn't kept awake by the heat but 90 degree weather and being 8.5 months preggo do not go well together.
Thankfully this week it should be cooling off and I just hope Emma decides to make her appearance before the next heat wave starts!
