Luke-isms

On Christmas day I was up at 5:00 am waiting for my kids to wake up. I turned on all the Christmas lights, rearranged the presents and made an extra pot of coffee.  Emma woke up first around 6 am and I brought her in to bed to snuggle with us, Luke slept in until 6:45 am and at the sight of him moving on the baby monitor, I sprung up from bed and went into his room to get him.  "Santa Claus came last night," I exclaimed and Luke jumped out of bed with the biggest smile on his face.  He then said to me, "mommy, help me carry my toys to Santa."  My heart melted. He carried his toy guitar and a few dinosaurs out into the living room looking for Santa so he could give him his toys, and I had to explain that Santa didn't want his toys, but instead he brought new toys for him to play with.  He looked confused then said, "aw shucks."

All month I was hyping up Santa's arrival on Christmas Eve, and my son was so excited because he interpreted those stories to mean he was going to be able to give his toys to Santa.

Luke has been saying the cutest things lately and his vocabulary has grown 10 fold in the last month or two.  I've been jotting down notes in my phone for weeks needing a place to record all of these moments before I forget.  Here are some more Luke-isms and fun things he's told us over the last month:

When B was tickling him and wouldn't stop  -"Daddy, I said stop.  Do you want to go to the corner?"

Luke would never want to get out of the bath so I started telling him he would turn into a prune if he stayed in too long.  Now, when I want him to get out of the bath I tell him to look at his hands and he says "mom, my hands are all proney ( he says it like it rhymes with phony), I need to get out!"

As we're leaving daycare I told Luke to grab his bag and he turned to me and said, "but mom, it's too heavy.  I'm just a kid."

When we ride home after daycare, there's usually a lot of traffic and sometimes Emma will get fussy.  If she starts to whimper, Luke will always say, "it's OK Emma, we're almost home," or "I know, I know, I know, we're almost there."  My favorite is when he will sing to her, which is so cute because he sings in a high pitched voice, and likes to make up songs.

While we were playing in his play kitchen, "Mommy I made you a delicious apple."  We haven't talked about where fruit comes from yet.

Luke's favorite word is silly.  He uses it to describe his friends, our dogs, his toys, everything.

At night, while we're brushing our teeth, I tell Luke he needs to brush them really good so that we can go see the dentist.  Luke's face lights up and he squeals, "yay, the dentist! I want to go see the dentist!"

We were at Target yesterday and after shopping stopped at the in-store Starbucks for coffee and I busted out some goldfish for Luke.  As we're sitting at the little table eating our snacks and finishing our coffee he says out of no where, "mommy, today is the best day ever."  He loves Target as much as his mama.

And my favorite thing, when we put him to bed at night he asks us to, "tell me about my day."  It all started when we would ask Luke to tell us about his day at dinner, but he likes seeing how creative mommy and daddy can be so he asks us to tell him about his day.  Sometimes we tell him the mundane parts about his day, we did puzzles, played with baby sister etc, and other times we tell him how we played in the jungle, rode on a dinosaur or raced in a car.

I am loving this age and all the creative, amazing ways he surprises us every day.
